JC - Fun Science Workshop

Many thanks to Mr John Daly (retired chemistry teacher, Blackrock College) and his wife Deirdre for their exciting Science Workshop which they delivered to our 1st and 2nd years last Monday. A wide variety of experiments were demonstrated with some memorable results.

 Here is a clip form the presentation showing "Catalysis of Hydrogen Peroxide to form Oxygen gas"
(using some washing up liquid to give some excellent visuals!!!)

 

 Some of the other experiments were

• Sublimation of Dry Ice and the resulting effects on pH (with good visual effect)
• Combining Oxygen and Hydrogen gas to form liquid water (with good sound effect)
• The 'Whoosh' bottle (vapourisation of methanol)
• The effect of liquid Nitrogen on Air Pressure in a balloon
• and many more.....(see pictures below)
